ACLU Applauds Lansing Conflict Program

The Central Michigan Restorative Justice Initiative was mentioned in an article in the Lansing State Journal on June 25, 2009.  The ACLU of Michigan released a study identifying a school-to-prison pipeline that has been created by "suspension policies, cultural stereotypes, referrals to law enforcement for school fights and factors such as not requiring expelled students to get an alternative education" (Lansing State Journal, 6-25-09).

The article continues by saying that the report cites the Lansing School District's restorative justice program as a model other districts could use to reduce the number of suspensions and expulsions.

We are so excited to have this mention of our name in both a local media outlet as well as state recognition from such an influential group.  It is rewarding to know that our work is so strongly supported!!

We extracted some information from the report that we felt was relevant to our program and helped illustrate why we feel Restorative Justice is so important in our schools, and compiled a Literature Review with this information for easier reference.  A copy of this summary can be downloaded from the link below.
